Armstrong Alterna is a great alternative to ceramic, porcelain, and stone tile, so we at Fox Floors in Staten Island, NY are happy to offer a selection. How exactly does Alterna compare to real tile? Let’s take a closer look:
For the most part, Alterna luxury vinyl tiles look exactly like real ceramic, porcelain, and stone tiles. They are available in a variety of natural wood and stone looks, all of which are authentic. At the same time, Alterna, like real tiles, can even be installed with grout.
There are a few different sizes of Alterna that are available: 12”x12”, 12”x24”, and 16”x16”.
Alterna is definitely more durable than its real tile counterparts. Because of its luxury vinyl construction, Alterna is resilient, so it can handle foot traffic and other impacts without ever cracking or collapsing. Consequently, Alterna tiles will rarely, if ever, need to be replaced. Alterna can be installed virtually anywhere in the home, including kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas with moisture and foot traffic.
Ceramic, porcelain, and stone tiles are hard and cold to the touch, so they certainly are not the most comfortable flooring options. Alterna, however, is rather flexible, so it is much softer underfoot. Plus, because of its engineered construction, Alterna typically remains about 20 degrees warmer than real tile. Alterna is therefore comfortable enough for any home setting, even one with children and pets.
Given its extra durability, Alterna is certainly easier to maintain than tile. The surface will resist scratches, scuffs, and stains without any special treatments, so only routine mopping is necessary to keep your Alterna floor looking as good as new.
Alterna can be installed using a special adhesive, so the installation is permanent. Also, you can even choose to install Alterna with Armstrong’s Quiet Comfort Luxury Flooring underlayment. This provides extra comfort underfoot, as well as noise reduction.
